Hibiscus tea is the vibrant, crimson concoction made by steeping the luscious calyces of the roselle flower. This herbal tea is the perfect pick-me-up, served both hot and cold, and boasts a tangy flavor that’ll remind you of juicy cranberries.

  • 2 scant cups of dry hibiscus flowers (Roselle)
  • 10 cups of water
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar (depending on your preferred sweetness)

  1. Rinse the dry hibiscus flowers lightly under cold water.
  2. Place in a large pot over high heat.
  3. Pour the water, stir, and allow to boil for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Lower the heat.
  5. Add the sugar and stir until it has dissolved.
  6. Allow it to simmer for 40-45 minutes, stirring every now and then.
  7. Turn off the heat.
  8. Give it time to cool before straining it three times to get it as clear as possible.
  9. Place in your bottle or jug of choice and refrigerate.
