Orange Jaguar

For a nostalgic touch to your cocktail repertoire, look no further than the Orange Jaguar, an homage to the timeless Tequila Sour, but with a modern twist. Sour lovers will rejoice in its classic appeal, while those who appreciate nuanced layers and the subtle sweetness of oranges will find it equally satisfying. This tequila-based cocktail blends orange juice, lemon juice, bitters, agave syrup and egg white, resulting in a refreshing vintage drink.

The Technique

Adding egg whites can elevate any libation with a fun, velvety texture and creamy flavor. When paired with citrus, the proteins in egg whites create a luscious foam that not only adds visual flair but balances the tartness of the juice with the strength of the alcohol. Each sip feels a little more luxurious and well-rounded. For those seeking a vegan alternative to achieve the same type of foam consistency, aquafaba, the liquid from a can of chickpeas, serves as an excellent substitute for egg whites (don’t knock it ‘til you try it!) While a sour drink like this one works without bitters, we recommend adding a few drops to bring out the subtle bitter undertones, resulting in another layer of complexity to the drink’s flavor profile.

About Alma del Jaguar

We like using Alma Del Jaguar tequila for this recipe for its notes of black pepper and citrus, which effortlessly contribute to the recipe’s tangy yet sophisticated flavor profile. Each sip offers a hint of anise sweetness that balances the sourness. An added plus is the brand’s commitment to conservation, with a portion of its sales dedicated to supporting projects that protect jaguars in both Mexico and the U.S. Sustainability is a top priority, evident in the use of 100% recycled Mexican glass bottles, repurposed cork, and even agave fiber labels, to name a few of their eco-friendly practices.
