The Fuego Manzana cocktail answers the crowd-pleasing call for something that celebrates winter and is also sweet and spicy.
The fiery and flavorful cocktail perfectly balances sweet, sour, and spicy notes. Legendary London bartender Danny Smith created the cocktail in the mid-2000s. Today bars around the globe like at Casa Salles in Tequila, Mexico are making the cocktail a requisite on the menu.
“The combination of ingredients in this cocktail is a perfect balance of sweet, sour and spice. The cooked agave notes in the tequila combine perfectly with the delicious sweet apple flavors, while the bright freshly squeezed lime juice and the sweet spice of red chill enhance the natural citrus flavors and pepper spice in the tequila!” – Alberto Guzman Ontiveros, Food and Beverage Manager at Casa Salles.
To make the Fuego Manzana, you’ll need El Tequileño Reposado tequila, sliced red chili pepper, sugar syrup, unfiltered apple cider, fresh lime juice, and green apple liqueur. Start by muddling the red pepper in the base of a cocktail shaker before adding the other ingredients. Then shake the mixture well with ice before straining into a chilled cocktail glass. Complete the Fuego Manzana by garnishing with another small red chili pepper and serve in a coupe glass. The result is a crowd-pleasing cocktail that has a slight ringing with a peal of chile-pepper burn.
Step-by-step instructions to make the cocktail:
1. Begin by slicing a small red chili pepper and muddle it in the base of a cocktail shaker.
2. Add 2 oz of El Tequileño Reposado tequila, 1 bar spoon of sugar syrup, 1 oz unfiltered apple cider, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz green apple liqueur into the shaker.
3. Fill the shaker with cubed ice and shake it vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
4. Fine strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail coupe glass.
5. Finally, garnish the cocktail with another small red chili pepper.
And that’s it! Your delicious Fuego Manzana cocktail is ready to be served.
